Bury Me in the Red Clay is Mary Cogan’s tribute to Oklahoma and Route 66, The Mother Road.

I could never find the words to express my heartfelt appreciation and love for everyone who contributed to Bury Me in the Red Clay.

Lloyd Maines, who is an Austin Music institution, produced the CD for me. There’s just no one better than Lloyd at rounding up the best songwriters and musicians and putting it all together. Lloyd’s talent and insight have given us some of the best albums ever recorded. And, he is a true instrumental genius.

Lloyd plays acoustic guitar, pedal steel, lap steel, mandolin and banjo on Bury Me and teamed up with Randle Chowning and Larry Lee, both of the famous Ozark Mountain Daredevils, on ‘Standing on the Rock,’ which will truly rock your socks off!

I’m so fortunate to have recorded Bury Me with the best back-up vocals in the world— Drew Womack, lead singer of Sons of the Desert, Walt Wilkins and Tina Wilkins, and, Terri Hendrix. These are the elite of harmony vocalists, and kept me at the top of my game. Each and every one of them is so amazingly gifted. I can’t thank them enough for their talent, patience and love.

Radney Foster sings with me on “That’s Just How She Cries. What a thrill!

And what a thrill to have Lee Roy Parnell on slide and vocals on “Little Secrets”. Lee Roy has charted more than 20 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.

Then, we have Brian Beken of the South Austin Jug Band on fiddle. His energy and precision turn fiddle-playing into a work of art.

On electric guitar, David Grissom, at his best. David has performed with Chris Isaak, Buddy Guy and the Dixie Chicks and so many other big names. He’s also a terrific song-writer, and co-wrote one of the songs on this album with Billy Montana.

Glenn Fukunaga plays bass. Glenn is universally accepted as Austin’s best bass player.

Michael Ramos, our beautifully Latin-influenced keyboardist, well-known all over Texas, gave consistently perfect performances on keyboard and accordion.”

Our percussionist, Tom Van Schaik, kept us on our toes every single minute. Tom was the original drummer for The Dixie Chicks, making 3 albums with them. He studied with North Texas States’ famous jazz band and has performed with B.J. Thomas, the Irving Symphony, and the Fort Worth/Dallas Ballet. Tom has played with Robert Earl Keen for many years now.

All songs were composed by some of the best songwriters in the business. Each track stands on its own in originality.
